Many people say that since Google changes their algorithm nearly every day that "link building" is dead. POPPYCOCK! Quality, industry-specific, niche-targeted, relevant link building is ALIVE & WELL; it is the spammy, low quality, high volume link building that is TOTALLY DEAD!
I ran across an article by Brian Dean (Mr. Backlinko), 17 Untapped Backlink Sources, that suggested obtaining quality links from audio sharing sites, and since I have 2 Audiobooks, it hit me like a ton of bricks. So I created profiles for my Audiobooks on the following sites all with high-quality Domain Authority in March & April:
NoiseTrade Reaches Out Via Email
I hardly had to think about it, especially since they capture the email addresses of those who download my free Audiobook. As we chatted to work out the details, I soon realized that I would get much higher engagement if I offered my entire Audiobook, not just a sample chapter. So, I uploaded my all of the Audiobook files for Why Leadership Sucks, and we selected an email feature date of April 15th.
When I paid the NoiseTrade invoice, they only charged me $50. So I reminded them that they had undercharged me, and they indicated that they would honor the $50 price. Thanks Amanda and the NoiseTrade team!
461 Subscribers Directly From NoiseTrade Email
- Engaging cover art that stands out from rest of other titles in email feature (see below).
- FULL Audiobook offered: I allowed those who subscribed to download all mp3 files, not just one sample chapter.
Netline/TradePub Reaches Out From Viewing My NoiseTrade Profile
428 Additional Email Subscribers from Netline/TradePub
120 Unsubscribes Seems Rather High, Doesn't It?
The key is that I am moving my books and brand forward...not just standing still.
Importance of Nurturing All of These Email Subscribers
I'm glad you asked, since the few who persist and get this far in their marketing efforts, miss this last, crucial step. Please don't be one of them!
So I am a Mailchimp customer, and they have a feature-rich (for the price) email marketing automation workflow that you can setup to send a series of emails that direct subscribers to various blog posts. I setup an 8 email nurturing series where I sent subscribers to various blog posts on leadership and career topics.
NOTE: Do NOT just send product pitches to get them to buy your stuff. Engage them first to earn their trust that you are a thought leader and authority on your topic. Then they are more likely to invest in whatever it is that you are selling.
So How Was the Engagement With My Email Series?
- NoiseTrade had higher open rates and CTR (click-through-rates) but had substantially higher unsubscribe rates.
- TradePub/NetLine had lower open rates & CTR but much lower unsubscribe rates.
And NoiseTrade subscribers engaged most with different email campaigns than those Netline/TradePub subscribers did. One of the highest engagement rates for NoiseTrade was with a blog post 25 Stellar Leadership Audiobooks You Mustn't Miss. You can see that while there was another email with a slightly higher open rate; this email/blog post had the highest combined open & CTR.
Open rate was nearly 41% and nearly 19% CTR.
Open rate was nearly 38% and nearly 14% CTR.
701 Remaining Email Subscribers to Engage and Cultivate
These are people who knew little or nothing about my thought leadership before. Not, it is up to me to continue to engage and delight them. At some point, they will become fans and help me spread the word to others who need leadership or career advice.
